Vol. 388 No. 5

Written Answers. - Purchase of Equipment.

40.

asked the Minister for Defence the total amount and value of weapons, ammunition or other military equipment purchased from Israel in each of the past five years; if, in view of the continued attacks on Irish troops serving with UNIFIL by Israeli backed groups, it is intended to discontinue these purchases; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Limerick West): In the interest of security it is not the practice to furnish details regarding the purchase of weapons, ammunition or military equipment. In accordance with established practice such supplies are purchased by my Department from a number of countries on the basis of competitive tendering.

I have already dealt with incidents involving Irish troops serving with UNIFIL in reply to Questions Nos. 20, 24, 28, 34, 42 and 51 put down by other Deputies.
