Vol. 388 No. 10

Written Answers. - Cross-Border Security Arrangements.

39.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will give details of the review there has been of security arrangements for meetings between members of the Garda and the RUC following the recent murder of two RUC officers returning from a meeting in Dundalk, County Louth; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Following the tragic deaths of two senior RUC officers at Jonesboro last month, the security arrangements for future cross-Border meetings have been jointly reviewed by both police forces at a very senior level. Deputies will appreciate that the purpose of this review would to a great extent be defeated if details of what has been decided were to be made public.

However, I can say that the objective of the review is to ensure that there continues to be a very high level of co-operation between the two police forces at all levels while at the same time the greatest possible security is provided for all those involved.
