Vol. 389 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Meeting with Company.

35.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food whether he or officials from his Department have met with a person (details supplied) or his representatives or with representatives of any company in which he has an interest, since 1 January 1989; if so, when these meetings occurred; the location of such meetings; the subject matters of these meetings; on whose request these meetings were held; and the details supplied.

I and officials of my Department meet representatives of the industry on an ongoing day to day basis. Such meetings are held on request from either side and relate to a multiplicity of issues involving the administration of the CAP and national legislation in the sector. It is unrealistic to assume that we can afford to engage the necessary staff to record the information sought by the Deputy given the numbers of people meeting officials of the Department in relation to all aspects of its work. For my part, I have met the person concerned on one occasion in the period in question as part of a series of discussions which he was having with all the political parties.
