asked the Minister for Education if she will give an assurance that the teacher allocations to the vocational education committees for 1989-90 will be issued no later than May of this year; and if her attention has been drawn to the difficulties that were caused to vocational education committees by the fact that teacher allocations were not issued to them last year until September.

Notifications to vocational education committees and to the boards of management of community/comprehensive schools of their teacher allocations for the 1989-90 session are in the course of being issued by my Department and I expect that this process will be completed shortly.
The staffing allocations for primary schools for September 1989 are determined by the enrolments in the schools on 30 September 1988. School authorities will be aware of their entitlement based on these figures. Schools where posts are being discontinued due to insufficient enrolments were officially advised of this in March 1989.
