Vol. 390 No. 2

Written Answers. - Howth (County Dublin) Harbour.

57.

asked the Minister for the Marine, in view of his reply to Parliamentary Questions No. 171 of 25 January 1989 and No. 94 of 21 February 1989, when his Department will take over full responsibility for Howth Harbour, County Dublin; the reason for the delay; and the plans he has for the harbour development.

As I stated in reply to Question No. 94 of 21 February 1989, it is necessary to make an order under the Fishery Harbour Centre Act, 1968, in order to provide for the legal transfer of the harbour property and administration.

The making of the order has been delayed by the necessity to survey and remap the harbour area. This and some other minor technicalities are being resolved and the order should be in operation shortly.

Howth has been developed in recent years with significant State investment. Apart from provision of an auction hall, there are no plans for additional major improvements under consideration at present.
