Vol. 390 No. 4

Written Answers. - Driving Tests in Dublin.

86.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of people waiting to take driving tests in Dublin city and county; and the action he proposes to take on the matter.

On 1 May there were 11,117 applications on hands for driving tests for the three Dublin test centres.

In order to bring the waiting period throughout the country down to an acceptable level I have decided to increase the number of testers to 75 from the current 50. While the recruitment process is currently under way, it will nevertheless take some time before the new testers are trained and fully operational. In the meantime, in order to deal with the particularly acute situation in Dublin, I have arranged to have some country based testers brought to Dublin on a temporary basis.
