FAS training allowances for under 18s were not increased in 1988 in line with social welfare increases as they are not directly linked to social welfare payments. I announced in the Dáil on 26 January 1989, during the course of the debate on the budget, that allowances for under 18s were being increased by 3 per cent. The increased rates will be payable from 24 July 1989.
