Vol. 390 No. 4

Written Answers. - Permanent Defence Force Members.

104.

asked the Minister for Defence the reason serving members of the Permanent Defence Force do not receive all documentation at the date of termination of their service with particular reference to their P45; the reason they should have to wait for six weeks to receive their P45; and if he will ensure that all entitlements are made available to retiring members at the time of the completion of service.

, Limerick West): Form P45 cannot be issued to a member of the Permanent Defence Force until the total of his pay and allowances due up to the date of his discharge has been calculated. Every effort is made to issue the form as soon as possible after a member's discharge and where a member gives adequate notice of his intention to leave the Force, there is usually no delay in issuing his P45.

As a member's final payment must take into account such items as outstanding allowances and charges (e.g. deductions for deficiencies, etc.) the amount due cannot be calculated until after the date of discharge. It is not possible, therefore, to ensure that all entitlements are made available to retiring members at the time of completion of service.
