asked the Minister for Energy if he will indicate the various companies or organisations to which prospecting licences have been granted in County Mayo in the past three years; the townlands and areas where each such company or organisation is licensed to prospect; and if he will indicate for what minerals licences have been issued in each case.

Since the beginning of 1987, 29 prospecting licences in County Mayo have been granted to seven exploration companies as detailed hereunder.
Because of the considerable number of townlands involved and the extent of the staff resources required for the task, it would not be practicable in this reply to furnish the Deputy with a list of the townlands in each licence area. However, the press advertisements inserted prior to the grant of the licences included a list of the townlands in question in each instance and I have arranged for the forwarding of copies of those advertisements to the Deputy.
The prospecting licences have been issued for the generality of minerals except in the case of three licences where, as indicated, certain minerals have been excluded.
