Vol. 392 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital (Limerick) Garda Personnel.

193.

(Limerick East) asked the Minister for Justice when the vacancy for Garda sergeant at Hospital, County Limerick will be filled; if he will give a commitment that at least two gardaí will be maintained in Hospital in the foreseeable future; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The detailed allocation of manpower to individual stations is a matter for the Garda authorities who inform me that they are not in a position at present to assign a sergeant to Hospital station, but that the policing needs of the sub-district served by the station are being adequately met at present and are being kept under review. The service provided by the two gardaí assigned to the station is supplemented as necessary by mobile units operating from the district headquarters at Bruff and the divisional headquarters at Henry Street, Limerick. The Garda authorities have no plans at present to alter the existing strength of two gardaí at Hospital.
