(Limerick East) asked the Minister for Justice the arrangements he intends to make as a result of the introduction of rural policing in County Limerick; the number of garda at each rank in the Limerick division and the stations to which they are attached; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I take it the Deputy is referring to the rural policing scheme which is in operation in the Claremorris, County Mayo and Thomastown, County Kilkenny Garda districts. This scheme has not been extended to County Limerick and there are no proposals at present to do so.
The following table gives details of Garda strength on 30 September 1989 at each station in Limerick Garda Division. It should be borne in mind that the precise allocation of manpower to individual stations varies from time to time in the light of changing needs and circumstances.
The strengths assigned to Henry Street, which is the divisional headquarters for the Limerick division as well as being a district headquarters, and to Roxboro Road, Askeaton, Bruff and Newcastle West, which are also district headquarters stations, include specialist staff and units which provide a service on a divisional/district basis.
