Vol. 392 No. 1

Written Answers. - Leixlip (Kildare) Proposed Garda Station.

209.

asked the Minister for Justice the efforts which have been made in the past year to provide the promised Garda substation at Leixlip, County Kildare; when he expects to have the station opened; the number of gardaí that will be stationed there; the reason for the delay in providing the station; the cost of the provision of the service; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A number of properties were inspected in the past twelve months with a view to providing a Garda substation at Leixlip, County Kildare. A suitable property was identified and negotiations for leasing it were well advanced when it was withdrawn from the market in August of this year.

Another suitable property has recently been identified and negotiations for leasing it are in progress. It is not possible, at this stage, to say when exactly the Leixlip substation will open. The manning level of the substation will be decided in the light of circumstances when it is ready to open.
