Vol. 392 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Cork Roads Allocation.

226.

asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the dangerous condition of some of the Cork County roads, he will make a further allocation of money this year.

The 1989 road grant allocation which I notified to Cork County Council amounts to £21.76 million, which represents an increase of some 60 per cent compared with the level of road grant payments to the authority in 1988. The allocation includes discretionary grants for regional and county roads amounting to £6.619 million, which is an increase of £2.44 million on the comparable provision to the authority for 1988.

The 1989 Exchequer provisions for road grants have been fully allocated and there are no funds available from which any additional allocations could be made at this time.
