Vol. 392 No. 1

Written Answers. - House Improvement Grant Scheme.

227.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will consider an extension of the closing date for house improvement grants from 1 November 1989 to some date in 1990 as it could create severe hardship for people who find it difficult to get a builder.

267.

asked the Minister for the Environment the total estimated cost to the State of outstanding grants approved for house improvement works if all works required to be completed for payments to be made in respect of approved works are completed by 31 October 1989.

268.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of applicants who successfully sought house improvement grants who have to date not furnished all necessary documentation to his Department, confirming that works approved for grant purposes have been completed; and if he will extend the deadline for completing such works and lodging such documentation with his Department to 31 December 1990.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 227, 267 and 268 together. An extension to 31 May 1990 of the closing date for completion of works in claiming grants has been announced.

The number of outstanding grant approvals under the 1985 scheme at 30 September 1989 was 36,414 and the value of these approvals was about £95 million.
