Vol. 392 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cork Waste Disposal.

260.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will confirm the statement (details supplied) made by the Minister for Industry and Commerce that there is no intention of establishing either a toxic dump or incinerator in the Cork Harbour area.

I have made a number of public statements in relation to the provision of a facility in Ireland for the incineration of hazardous wastes on a contract basis. My Department have been pursuing the matter with private sector interests concerned. Five firms have submitted detailed proposals and these are currently under examination. It has been made clear at all stages that site selection will be a matter for the successful proposer.
