The Dental Council, in consultation with my Department, are at present preparing a scheme for the establishment and registration of dental hygienists under the provisions of the Dentists Act, 1985. The question of training courses for dental hygienists and the criteria for enrolment and the numbers to be enrolled in such courses are matters which have yet to be finalised.
