The information requested by the Deputy in respect of the of the years 1976 to 1985 is not readily available as it is not possible to differentiate between the functions assigned to the various heads of staff in the manner requested by the Deputy. In addition the Minister for Health at that time also had responsibility for the Department of Social Welfare and as such the figures would not be comparable.
The numbers employed in my constituency office and that of my predecessor and in the Ministers of State's offices for the years 1986 to 1989 are as follows:
