Vol. 392 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin Schools.

320.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the condition of much of the woodwork in St. Joseph's School, Ballymun, Dublin 11; and if she has any plans to refurbish it properly with brick to ensure that wasteful short-term patching up is not allowed given that it has proved totally inadequate in other schools of similar design.

I am aware that the windows of St. Joseph's School, Ballymun, Dublin 11 are in an unsatisfactory condition. In July, 1988 my Department authorised the school authorities to proceed with a scheme of remedial works to the windows. The chairman of the board of management has sought grant assistance for a more extensive scheme of works.

My Department propose to discuss the matter with the school authorities and their architect at an early date. In view of the Deputy's interest I will keep her advised of developments in this regard.

asked the Minister for Education if she will provide an additional class for hard of hearing children at St. Patrick's national school, Drumcondra, Dublin 9, in view of the established need in the north west area as shown in the size of the waiting lists.

It is presumed the Deputy is referring to special classes for language and learning impaired pupils. There are two such special classes, and my Department are investigating the case for a third one, at the school in question.
