Vol. 392 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Limerick School.

328.

(Limerick East) asked the Minister for Education the circumstances in which it was thought necessary to keep pupils of St. Nessan's School, Mungret, County Limerick at home during September, while awaiting the provision of a prefabricated classroom; the reason the necessary arrangements were not made during the summer holidays; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The provision of a 3 classroom prefabricated unit at St. Nessan's National School, Mungret, County Limerick is part of an overall plan for the provision of suitable classroom accommodation at the school and involved negotiations with the school authorities.

These negotiations were concluded in June 1989 and it was then necessary to advise the school authorities with regard to the provision of the prefab which necessitated the approval of the local authority (planning permission), the seeking of competitive tenders and arrangements for the preparation of the site for the prefab.

However, while 8 school days were affected in relation to this matter, there was no undue delay in the provision of the prefab given the time available.
