Vol. 392 No. 1

Written Answers. - Discrimination Against Students.

342.

asked the Minister for Education if she is aware that children not of the Roman Catholic or Church of Ireland religions are discriminated against when it comes to school transport.

I do not accept that my Department's school transport scheme discriminates against children not of the denominations mentioned by the Deputy. The objective of the scheme is to provide a basic level of service to those children who would otherwise have difficulty in attending school regularly. As to the eligibility of the individual pupil for that basic level, each case must be decided by reference to the actual terms of the scheme.
