Vol. 392 No. 1

Written Answers. - Louth New Post-Primary School.

364.

asked the Minister for Education if a site for a new post-primary school on the north side of Drogheda, County Louth has been purchased by the vocational education committee or by her Department; if not, the steps which are being taken to ensure that a site is purchased; if a commitment has been given for the provision of a post-primary school for the above; when plans will go ahead for the building of this school; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

There are seven post-primary schools in Drogheda.

A site for a new post-primary school on the north side of Drogheda has not been purchased by my Department or by the vocational education committee. The Town of Drogheda Vocational Education Committee has sought sanction from my Department to purchase such a site.

The position is that having regard to the long-term accommodation needs of the centre, my Department is satisfied that the purchase of a site for a new post-primary school is not warranted at this stage.

The matter will, however, be kept under regular review.
