Vol. 392 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funds.

32.

asked the Minister for Finance the total amount of national lottery funds transferred to his Department since the establishment of the national lottery to date; and the amount of funds that have already been allocated.

Since the establishment of the national lottery, £83.949 million has been transferred from the national lottery fund to the Exchequer. A corresponding amount has been issued to Government Departments responsible for lottery-funded schemes and programmes.

33.

asked the Minister for Finance the total amount of national lottery funds allocated in 1989 to date; the additional amounts it is projected will be allocated; and if he will specify the projects for which grants were paid in Waterford county and city in his and other Government Departments.

43.

asked the Minister for Finance the total amount of moneys awarded to various clubs and organisations throughout the country from the proceeds of the national lottery in 1989 to date by various Government Departments; and if this represents an allocation of all the funds available from the proceeds of the national lottery in the current year; if it is intended that the various Departments involved would make further allocations available to voluntary bodies between now and 31 December, 1989; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 33 and 43 together.

The Government have decided on allocations totalling £65.809 million for 1989, of which £17.3 million represents a carry-forward of amounts allocated in 1987 and 1988 but not spent. The table which is being circulated with this reply lists for the Government Departments concerned the broad purposes for which these allocations have been made. I am arranging at present for the preparation of a statement giving additional detail on these allocations which, when completed, I will lay before the House. The total amount of lottery funds issued to spending Departments in 1989 to date is £29.688 million. As Deputies are aware, however, spending Ministers are responsible for the detail of spending on individual projects within their own areas. Questions about the issue of grants, including their geographic distribution, should therefore be addressed to the Ministers concerned.

Of the funds administered by my Department, and by the Office of Public Works, which is within my area of responsibility, £70,000 has been paid by the National Heritage Council for post-excavation works following the Viking excavations in Waterford City.
