Vol. 392 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Kerry Driving Test Applications.

132.

asked the Minister for the Environment the number of applicants awaiting testing for a driving licence at the Killarney centre, County Kerry; and the proposals he has to have the tests for those applicants expedited.

At present, there are 551 applicants waiting for driving tests at the Killarney test centre.

There are 48 driver testers throughout the country. Recently, four extra staff were redeployed to driver testing duties and these are now being trained. I have also made arrangements to recruit further testers to bring the permanent corps up to 60 and additional temporary testers on a contract basis in order to reduce the waiting periods for tests to an acceptable level as soon as practicable.
