Vol. 392 No. 4

Written Answers. - Kerry School Transport.

183.

asked the Minister for Education the present position in relation to the transport of children to primary schools from closed school areas, with particular reference to the Gortnabinna closed school area in Bonane, near Kenmare, County Kerry, and also with particular reference to the closed Blackwater bridge/Letterfinnish primary school areas in the parish of Sneem; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Under the terms of my Department's school transport scheme for primary schools, the catchment areas of closed schools will continue to be served as long as there are seven or more children availing of service. Services from the Gortnabinna and Blackwater Bridge closed school areas to Tulloha and Tahilla national schools respectively continue to operate under this provision. The service from the Letterfinnish closed school area of Tahilla national school was terminated in July 1989 as there was only one child offering for transport.
