Vol. 392 No. 4

Written Answers. - St. Damian's (Dublin) School.

194.

asked the Minister for Education if she will review the situation pertaining to St. Damian's national school, Walkinstown, Dublin 12, where a concessionary teacher has been lost because a teacher who has taken up an appointment in County Kerry has been deemed to constitute the extra concessionary teacher, even though he only spent one day teaching in the amalgamated school.

St. Damian's national school was established with effect from 1 September 1989 arising from the amalgamation of St. Damian's girls' national school with St. Damian's boys' national school. In the case of amalgamation a staffing concession is granted in respect of a teacher serving in the schools amalgamated on the date of amalgamation if the combined staffing exceeds the normal staffing complement. This is the situation that has applied in the case of St. Damian's national school. Representations have been received from the management of the school and these are being considered in my Department.
