asked the Minister for Education if she will make a statement regarding the changed circumstances in the Scholarstown Road area, Dublin 16, in light of the proposal to build a community school on the site; and if she will review the situation in light of the new housing developments under construction in that area.

My Department are aware of housing developments in the Knocklyon area. However, the proposed developments are not on a scale which would warrant the construction of a further post-primary school. Demand for post-primary accommodation arising from the proposed housing will not materialise until the first decade of the next century. At that stage the incidence of surplus accommodation at post-primary level will be even greater than at present.
My Department will, however, continue to monitor the post-primary needs of the Scholarstown Road area.
