Following a review of the functions of the National Board for Science and Technology and the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards, Eolas was established on 1 January 1988 under the Science and Technology Act, 1987. The Act combined, under Eolas, the functions previously carried out by the two bodies. At present, I have no plans to alter the functions of Eolas but I will keep the position under review.
