Vol. 392 No. 4

Written Answers. - Office of Consumer Affairs.

26.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make a statement on the closing of the Office of Consumer Affairs in the cities of Cork and Galway because of the withdrawal of regional inspectors from both cities.

Inspectors previously attached to the Office of Director of Consumer Affairs and Fair Trade in Cork and Galway were transferred to headquarters in July 1989. This decision was taken by the director, who is independent in the performance of his functions, with the aims of increasing operational efficiency and optimising the deployment of personnel resources.
