Vol. 392 No. 4

Written Answers. - Clondalkin (Dublin) Crime.

118.

asked the Minister for Justice if his attention has been drawn to the serious crime in Clondalkin, Dublin 22; and the steps he proposes to take to protect residents whose homes are regularly being burgled.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that there has been no appreciable increase either in crime levels generally or in the incidence of burglary of residential property in the Clondalkin area in the current year. They have also informed me that charges relating to a number of burglaries that have occurred in the area are pending before the District Court.

I am also informed that the Clondalkin area is patrolled regularly by foot and mobile Garda patrols from Clondalkin and Ronanstown stations and receives regular attention from specialist Garda units. A crime prevention unit is active in the locality on a full time basis and there are 19 neighbourhood watch schemes in operation in Clondalkin which are playing a useful role in helping the Garda to curb local crime.

I am assured by the Garda authorities that the policing needs of the area are kept under review.
