Vol. 392 No. 5

Written Answers. - Castlerea (Roscommon) Residential Training Centre.

13.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will make a statement on the progress to date in negotiations which his Department, in co-operation with CERT, have carried out with the Western Health Board to establish a residential training centre for the hotel and catering industry in St. Patrick's Hospital, Castlerea, County Roscommon, if and when this building is vacated as a psychiatric hospital.

CERT, at my request, examined the suitability of the St. Patrick's Hospital Castlerea facilities for hotel and catering training. CERT have found that it would not be a feasible proposition to convert the hospital building into a training centre for this purpose because of the likely considerable capital cost that would be involved in such a conversion and in addition CERT would not be in a position to use more than 10 per cent of the building. In coming to this decision, CERT took account of the use it already makes of the regional technical colleges in Athlone, Sligo and Galway to have students trained for the hotel, catering and tourism industry.
