asked the Minister for Health the number of instances in the past year of reported bronchial and chest complaints due to smog.
Written Answers. - Effects of Smog.
156.
Chest and bronchial complaints cover a wide range of medical conditions from relatively minor infections to very serious respiratory diseases. The vast majority of these complaints fall into the former category and are treated successfully by local general practitioners. Such conditions do not constitute notifiable diseases and would not therefore be reported to the Department. Smog is, of course, recognised to be a contributory and aggravating factor in respiratory conditions, but the extent to which particular conditions are directly attributable to the effects of smog is not known.
