I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the taxpayer retired from Bus Éireann on 8 December 1988, and has been in receipt of a retirement pension from CIE since then. A refund of tax for the year 1988-89, totalling £615.22, in respect of tax deducted from his earnings to the date of retirement was made to him on a weekly basis with his retirement pension up to 5 April 1989. A review of his liability for 1988-89 was carried out on 26 July 1989 and a further refund of £303.31 arose. A cheque in settlement was issued to him on 31 July 1989. On the basis of the information available to the inspector of taxes there is no further refund due to him for that year.
