Vol. 392 No. 7

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funds.

73.

asked the Minister for Finance the total amount of money which has been collected by the national lottery since it was established; the amount of money which has been paid out in prizes, wages and general expenses; and the amount of money which has been spent on sport to date.

The total amount of national lottery ticket sales from the establishment of the lottery to date is approximately £316 million.

The amount of money which was paid out in prizes, wages and general expenses in 1987 and 1988 was £134.25 million.

It is not the practice to provide midyear figures relating to the detailed operations of the national lottery. This is a matter for the Board of An Post National Lottery Company who have been licensed to operate the lottery. It is anticipated that a full breakdown of the 1989 performance will be available early in 1990, when the annual report and audited accounts for the company are published.

To date, £24.7 million has been allocated for the purposes of sport. In addition, £11.5 million has been allocated for amenity projects, many of which involve the provision of facilities at sport clubs.
