Demographic decline and population movement trends have created surplus school places in some areas of the country.
These surplus places are particularly concentrated in the centre of our larger cities such as Dublin and Cork. To provide more detailed information would involve a large volume of research for which staff are unavailable at this time. My Department are actively pursuing a policy of rationalising school resources including accommodation.
