asked the Minister for Education the reason leaving certificates in respect of the 1988 examination have not been issued; and when it is intended to issue the 1989 certificates.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 264 and 265 together.
Priority was given in the work of the examinations branch to preparations for the 1988 and 1989 examinations and as a result a backlog in the issuing of certificates built up.
The leaving certificates for 1988 were issued on 20 October, 1989. Work on the preparation of all outstanding intermediate and leaving certificates is proceeding and it is expected that all certificates, including those for 1989, will be issued before Christmas.
