National schools are required to be in operation for a minimum of 184 days except in very exceptional circumstances. On each school day senior pupils are required to attend for 5 hours, 20 minutes; infants and first class for 4 hours, 20 minutes.
Secondary schools are required to be in operation for a minimum of 180 days each school year and this can include up to 12 days on which certificate examinations are held. The number of hours of instruction per week in such schools is required to be not less than 28 hours.
