It is estimated that the cost of providing free school books to all pupils in national schools would be £16.5 million approximately.
As the cost of providing second level school text books can vary greatly depending on such factors as the subjects being followed, whether there are older pupils in the family, whether the books are obtained new or second-hand or whether a school leasing system is in operation it is not possible to state the cost involved.
