Vol. 393 No. 1

Written Answers. - Third Level Sector Rationalisation.

361.

asked the Minister for Education the number of courses which have been dropped or altered in higher education institutions, following upon the commitment in Paragraph 6.3 of The Programme for Action in Education to the effect that there should be rationalisation of courses and in some cases fundamental changes in programmes.

Major improvements in productivity have occurred in the third-level sector as a result of rationalisation measures over the past few years. This is evidenced by the extent of the expansion which has taken place in the sector within the constraints of available resources.

As the range of courses on offer in the colleges constantly undergo changes for a variety of reasons, however, it would not be feasible to identify the particular courses which were altered or dropped specifically because of such rationalisation measures.
