asked the Minister for the Environment the proposals from local authorities for the construction of houses and for the refurbishment and renewal of older houses which are currently with his Department; when these proposals were made; when he will approve same; and the steps he intends to take to provide additional local authority housing.

It is assumed the Deputy has in mind tenders for housing and remedial works schemes awaiting approval from my Department. On this basis, and apart from houses which were approved for commencement in 1989, the details are in the form of a tabular statement which I propose to circulate in the Official Report. It is not possible to approve any additional starts on the housing construction programme in 1989. Pending receipt and examination of the 1990 capital claims from each housing authority it is not possible to say what new housing construction schemes will be approved to commence in 1990 or what each authority's capital allocations will be.
In regard to the remedial works scheme the tenders on hand are being examined and a decision will be notified to the authorities concerned as soon as possible.
