Vol. 393 No. 2

Written Answers. - Acute Hospital Services.

53.

asked the Minister for Health if he intends to examine the declining situation of acute hospital services at Roscommon County Hospital, in light of widespread public disquiet on this matter; and if he will make a statement on the hospital services in County Roscommon.

The provision of hospital services in County Roscommon is a matter for the Western Health Board in the first instance. My Department have had consultations with the board regarding the services there and while it would appear from the occupancy levels over the past number of years that the services available at Roscommon County Hospital are adequate for the immediate needs of the catchment population, I am keeping the matter under regular review with the board.

To ensure that services at Roscommon are fully maintained I have agreed, and Comhairle na nOspidéal have approved of a replacement post for an anaesthetist which is due to fall vacant in 1991. This indicates my commitment to the maintenance of full hospital services at Roscommon for the future.
