Vol. 393 No. 2

Written Answers. - Venereal Disease.

70.

asked the Minister for Health if he is satisfied with the level of medical provision to treat venereal disease in the Dublin region and to prevent its increase; the exact funds which he has made directly and indirectly available to the medical centres in Dublin to promote this provision; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am satisfied that the present level of medical provision for the treatment of sexually transmissible diseases is adequate to meet the demand for such service. I should mention that I have recently given approval to the Mater Hospital to appoint a consultant in genito-urinary medicine.

It is not possible to identify the precise costs applicable to the genito-urinary departments of the two hospitals in Dublin where these units are based, that is, the Mater and St. James's Hospital.
