Vol. 394 No. 3

Written Answers. - Wexford Gas Supply.

41.

asked the Minister for Energy if he will consider the provision of a natural gas supply to County Wexford, and in particular to Wexford Gas Company; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My predecessor met with Wexford Gas Consumers plc earlier this year and pointed out that before any decision could be made in regard to the provision of assistance for the Wexford gas grid my Department would require a survival plan for the company. To date no such plan has been forthcoming.

Nevertheless, I understand that, in response to a request from the company, BGE are re-examining the question of making a supply of natural gas available to Wexford to see if such a project could be made commercially viable.

It will be some weeks before the board have completed their assessment.
