Vol. 394 No. 3

Written Answers. - ENT Appointment.

74.

asked the Minister for Health when an appointment regarding ear, nose and throat treatment will be granted to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

I would like to explain that waiting lists are kept under review and priority is given to urgent cases. This person has recently been placed on a waiting list for an out-patient appointment. I would suggest to the Deputy that if the child's parents feel that her condition is deteriorating they should return to their general practitioner who would be in the best position to stress the urgency of the case to the consultant concerned.

I am aware that problems have arisen in the provision of ear, nose and throat services in the South-Eastern Health Board area due to the difficulty in filling a vacant post of consultant ENT surgeon. The post has been advertised on several occasions but it has not been possible to make an appointment. The local appointments commissioners re-advertised the post on 29 November 1989.
