asked the Minister for Education the amount of funds available to her Department for sporting grants in 1990; the way in which this compares with the estimated amount for 1989; if, in view of the excellent work being done by a sports club (details supplied) in Dublin 8 who have applied for a grant to help them continue their work, she will allocate the grant; if so, when same will be paid; and the amount of grant that will be payable.

No funding is available to my Department in 1989 and 1990 for the recreational facilities scheme and all future applications for funding will fall to be considered under the new arrangements for recreational facilities grants/amenity grants scheme referred to by the Minister for Finance in his reply of 24 October 1989 to Question Nos. 26, 48 and 55. A grant of £2,000 was provisionally allocated in April 1988 to the club in question under my Department's capital grant scheme for the provision of recreational facilities.
Despite numerous requests by my Department to submit the necessary documentation to enable work to commence and payment of the grant to be made, the club have failed to do so. In these circumstances it was decided to cancel the grant and have the funds reallocated.
