Vol. 394 No. 5

Written Answers. - Harbour Constable Service.

72.

asked the Minister for the Marine if he will consider the provision of a harbour constable service at Howth Harbour, Dublin 13 on a 24 hour basis, in view of the high incidence of vandalism and damage to property on and adjoining the harbour piers.

I am satisfied with the level of security provided by my Department at Howth harbour, which is augmented by the provision of regular Garda patrols. I do not consider a 24 hour constable service is necessary at the present time. I am aware of two recent incidents of vandalism in Howth harbour and I understand that the Garda are pursuing a definite line of inquiry in the matter.
