Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Shale Quarry Site Development.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

113 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if, within the context of the inter-Governmental Conference and the Secretariat, the question of the proposed development of a 50 acre shale quarry site, adjacent to the historic site at the Battle of the Boyne, which this year will celebrate its tercentenary has been discussed; whether reservations or concerns have been expressed by representatives in the loyalist and unionist tradition on this island with regard to the interference with and disruption of a uniquely historic site; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The issue of the proposed shale quarry close to the River Boyne has not been raised or discussed within the context of the Anglo-Irish Agreement. No approaches have been made to the Government on the matter from loyalist or unionist representatives.
