Vol. 394 No. 8
176 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the gallonage which would be required to bring each dairy farmer in the country up to an 8,000 gallon milk quota.
The quota system in Ireland is operated on a purchaser (i.e., co-operative or dairy) basis. Details of quotas of individual producers are not held by my Department. I do not therefore have the information requested by the Deputy.
I can state, however, that there are approximately 9,600 milk producers with quotas below the level of 5,000 gallons and about a further 10,000 with quotas between 5,000 and 10,000 gallons.
