Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Ceist:

249 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a decision will be made regarding an application for occupational injury benefit on 6 June, 1989 by a person (details supplied) in Cork.

The person concerned claimed injury benefit under the occupational injuries scheme from 8 June 1989, in respect of an incapacity from an alleged accident at work on 6 June 1989.

Pending the completion of investigations necessary in connection with the claim, his entitlement to disability benefit on an interim basis was examined. It was found, however, that he had less than 39 paid contributions to his credit and he failed to satisfy the contribution conditions to qualify for disability benefit.

An inquiry addressed to his employers failed to confirm the alleged accident and the case had to be referred for investigations by the social welfare officer.

These investigations have been completed and it has been decided to allow the claim for injury benefit from 8 June, the first day of medically certified incapacity.

Arrears of injury benefit due to the claimant, less the amount of supplementary welfare assistance paid to him since he made his claim to injury benefit, will be paid at an early date.
