Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Re-alignment of Roads.

Michael Moynihan

Ceist:

331 Mr. Moynihan asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the serious nature of the traffic position on the road leading from Curtins Cross, Killarney to the industrial estate at Ballyspillane, Killarney, County Kerry, he will allocate sufficient funds to provide for the necessary re-alignment of the road.

As the road in question is a county road, responsibility for undertaking any works on it, including the provision of the necessary finance, is a matter for the local authority. The local authority may, at their discretion, use the discretionary grants for non-national roads paid by my Department to supplement expenditure from its own resources on such works. On 23 November 1989 discretionary grants for regional and country roads, totalling £3.023 million, were notified to Kerry County Council in respect of 1990.
