Vol. 394 No. 8

Written Answers. - Travellers' Sites.

Jim Mitchell

Ceist:

354 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment , in respect of each county and county borough, if he will give the following information: (a) the number of serviced and hard surface travellers' sites in operation; and the total number of family units, that is, husband and/or wife and dependent children currently accommodated on these sites, (b) the number of serviced and hard surface sites expected to become available this year, (c) the number of approved temporary sites, (d) the total number of travellers' families in the last two annual census; and the total number of persons (i) over 16 years and (ii) under 16 years in these families and (e) the total amount of money provided by his Department for traveller settlement in each of the last five years; and the amount budgeted for 1990.

The attached tables provide for each county and county borough the number of serviced travellers' sites and approved temporary sites, the number of traveller families as shown by the annual counts in 1987 and 1988 and the total moneys provided by my Department for traveller settlement in each of the last five years. Results of the 1989 count have not yet been compiled.

Details are not available in my Department of the number of families accommodated on serviced sites or a breakdown by age of these families.

Information regarding the number of sites expected to be completed this year is not available as it is now know what proposals will be put to my Department for approval during the year. The allocations to individual local authorities for 1990 have not yet been made.
